Dear all,

We are so excited to have announced all the details for this year’s 2018 Orange County Science and Engineering Week! We have so many great things in store for you!

We have published the details and registration information for the 4th annual Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational and Junior Engineering Olympiad. We’ve introduced some new competition events this year. Make sure you sign up soon!

We will also incorporate technology, arts, and mathematics in this annual celebration of science and engineering week in OC! We hope you can come to our 2018 STEAM Scavenger Hunt.

Finally, please make note that our venue has changed. The Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational, Junior Engineer Olympiad, and the OCSEF STEAM Scavenger Hunt will take place at Sage Hill School in Newport Beach, CA.

Arnold and Mabel Beckman Art Contest 2017 Finalists

Hey everyone!

Congratulations to all of the entires for the 2017 Arnold and Mabel Beckman Art Contest. We applaud all of your hard work and effort. You all have truly exemplified and captured the legacy of the Beckman family. All finalists will receive an email within the next few days of their status.

For Finalists:

  • May 20, 2017: awards ceremony @ the Beckman Center (100 Academy, Irvine, CA 92617) (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention will be announced)

There are 2 categories, Visual Art and Photography. In each category there are 2 divisions, Junior (grades 4-8) and Senior (grades 9-12). Only students in grades 4-12 may submit artwork.

Prizes:

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive cash prizes up to $100.
  • All finalists will receive certificates of achievement.

Judging Process:

  • Entries will be judged primarily on the student’s use of his or her artistic abilities to portray the theme with originality and creativity.
  • There will be 10 finalists chosen from each category division. From these 10 finalists, one 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place winner will be chosen. Honorable Mentions will also be awarded.
  • There will also be a Popular Vote winner out of the 10 finalists from each category division.

Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational and Junior Engineering Olympiad Schedules

Hi everyone!

Below is the schedule for the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational:

    • Registration & welcome – from 9:45am to 10:15am
    • Rotation #1 – from 10:15am to 11:05am
    • Break – from 11:05am – 11:10am
    • Rotation #2 – from 11:10am to 12:00pm
    • Science Bowl (Elementary School Students) – 12:00pm to 12:30pm
    • Awards – from 12:30pm to 1:00pm

Below is the schedule for the Junior Engineering Olympiad:

    • Registration & welcome – 1:15pm to 1:45pm
    • Rotation #1 – from 1:45pm to 2:35pm
    • Break – from 2:35pm to 2:40pm
    • Rotation #2 – from 2:40pm to 3:30pm
    • Science Bowl (Middle School Students) – 3:30pm – 4:00pm
    • Awards – from 4:00pm to 4:30pm

The Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational, Junior Engineering Olympiad, Science Bowls, and OCSEF STEAM Scavenger Hunt & Showcase will now take place at the Tustin Community Center. All other details will remain the same – including date and time. The OCSEF Open 2017 will remain at the Discovery Center. We apologize for the inconvenience of this change. Our website will fully reflect these location changes by tomorrow, Friday, April 14, 2017.

We are so excited to have announced all the details for this year’s 2017 Orange County Science and Engineering Week! We have so many great things in store for you!

New this year are the OCSEF Open 2017 (an official Rubik’s Cube competition hosted by the World Cube Association in partnership with OCSEF) as well as the OCSEF STEAM Scavenger Hunt & Showcase. We are delighted to be able to incorporate not only science and engineering, but also math, computer science, art, and business in our events this year! We highly recommend you to check these new events out.

As always, we are pleased to announce details for the 3rd annual Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational and Junior Engineering Olympiad. We’ve introduced some new competition events this year. Make sure you sign up soon!

Finally, please make note that our venue has changed. The OCSEF Open 2017 will take place at the Discovery Cube in Orange County. The Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational, Junior Engineering Olympiad, and the OCSEF STEAM Scavenger Hunt & Showcase will take place at the Tustin Community Center @ the Market Place.

Thank you so much for your participation in OC Science’s Problems of the Month!! We loved seeing everyone’s intelligent responses and interest in science throughout this past year.

In all, 34 students submitted entries to the Problems of the Month from October to March. All students did an amazing job; if you submitted answers, you should be proud of yourself. 🙂

The event will take place from 1:15pm – 4:30pm. Participant check-in will start at 12:45pm. Please arrive at 12:45pm to check in!
