Science Bowl FAQ

THE SCIENCE BOWLS will take place during the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational (for elementary school students) and Junior Engineering Olympiad (for middle school students) on Sunday, April 8, 2018. The top eight students from grades 3-5 and top eight students from grades 6-8 who participated in OC Science’s Problems of the Week have been invited to participate in the Science Bowls.

How can I participate in the Science Bowl?

The top 8 participants in OC Science’s Problems of the Week were given the opportunity to participate in the 2018 Science Bowls. These students have already been determined based upon weekly scores. Learn more about the Problems of the Week here.

I’ve already RSVP’d for the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational/Junior Engineering Olympiad. Does this mean I can automatically compete in the Science Bowl?

No. RSVPing for the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational/Junior Engineering Olympiad only means that you will be able to watch the Science Bowl. You must have participated in OC Science’s Problems of the Week and been one of the top eight scorers to compete.

I have qualified to compete in the Science Bowl, but cannot participate in the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational or Junior Engineering Olympiad. What do I do?

Don’t worry! Even if you do not participate in the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational or Junior Engineering Olympiad, you may still compete in the Science Bowl if you have qualified.

How will I be notified if I qualify for the Science Bowl?

If you are one of the 8 students with the most number of points by the end of the online Problems of the Week problems, we will email you and also post a list on this website by SundayApril 2, 2017.

I’ve qualified for the Science Bowl and RSVP’d for the Elementary Science Olympiad Invitational/Junior Engineering Olympiad. Will there be a schedule conflict?

No; you will still be able to participate in all 2 event rotations as well as the Science Bowl.
